Quay Youth & Community Project

The Quay Community Project was set up in 2006 to facilitate developments in community facilities in the Quay area of Westport, and to develop community and youth activities in the area. The project now involves the Quay Community Garden, Quay Youth Summer Programme and various other youth programmes and activities for children and young people throughout the year.

The youth activities and groups are run by our Development Worker, John Doherty, with the support of local parents and volunteers.

The Quay Community Garden is located beside the Quay Community Centre; it is a community and volunteer-led group.  The garden is a communal area where various fruits and vegetables are grown, including potatoes, lettuce, strawberries, blackberries, garlic, artichokes, and peas. The garden has an active group of volunteers and more people from the community are always welcome. Produce is shared among participants and any extra is shared with the community.
