We were proud to take part once again in this year’s Mayo Pride celebrations — a day made possible by the hard work, dedication, and heart of the Mayo Pride volunteers and committee. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a joyful, affirming, and vibrant event.
In the lead-up to the parade, we were delighted to host the Pride Prep Workshop in the Centre. It was a joy to see our space come alive with creativity, laughter, and connection. It’s not often these days that we get to welcome so many members of the wider community through our doors at once — and when we do, it reminds us of what the Centre is all about: being a true community hub, alive with colour, love, and belonging.
We’re especially grateful to our wonderful volunteers, programme participants, and community members who joined us in the parade. For us, it’s about more than just walking down the street — it’s about the atmosphere created: one of visibility, solidarity, and shared joy.
For many years we’ve been proud to be part of the FRC Western Region LGBT+ Network — a space that encourages connection and learning between FRCs. As the pace and pressures of our sector continue to grow, and the demands on centres increase, these kinds of collaborations can be harder to sustain. But moments like Pride remind us of their value — of how important it is to make space for collective celebration and solidarity, even amid the busyness.
Now more than ever, it matters that we show up — visibly and vocally — for inclusion. We’re proud to stand with Mayo Pride and to help show that Westport is a town that welcomes and embraces everyone who calls it home.
